VAUGHAN BENNETT

Vaughan Songs 3
Discover the magic behind "Vaughan Songs 3," my third album where every track unfolds a unique story. Just like my previous songs, each piece in this collection offers a glimpse into life in Cornwall. Join me on this journey as we explore the woven into the melodies and lyrics. Let the music take you deeper into the heart of each story.
The Tinners Wedding
Based on factual events. It was not unusual for unattached tin miners to get drunk at the pub on payday, to wake up the next day with a ring on their finger. The bar maids (bless them) due to their job were not noted for their feminine appearance, so the guys didn't fancy them much! But of course in that day and age they wanted to get married and have a family just like everyone else.
We're off to California
A tale of leaving the native homeland for foreign shores due to necessity and survival.
Deadwood Dick
Dick Bullock, Cornish boy from St Columb who went west seeking work and became a gunslinger. He actually drove the Deadwood stagecoach and also drove it in Buffolo Bills wild west show. The event in the song is actually fiction, but the characters are real. This song is nicknamed the 'Pasty Western'.
The Fish Jowster
In their two wheeled traps with a hack horse known locally as a Gay Galant and noted for their presence and speed. The fish Jowster would cover the miles from town and country selling their wares of the freshest fish. Often racing one another to the next destination.
Prussia Cove Smugglers Song
Originally written and performed at the Minack theatre for the play "The King Of Prussia".
The Great Cabona
It was very unusual to get a fire in a tin mine, but in St Ives, they managed it, yet another true story.
Trevelyan's Ride
Based on the legend. As the land of Lyonesse disappeared below the waves, one solitary rider who was out that night, rode ahead of the rising waves to higher ground and was consequently the only survivor.
